When dealing with the IRS, taxpayers have the right to confidentiality. As with all ten rights outlined in the Taxpayer Bill of Rights, the IRS takes this right seriously.

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service seeks civic-minded volunteers to serve on the Taxpayer Advocacy Panel (TAP), a federal advisory committee that listens to taxpayers, identifies major taxpayer concerns and makes recommendations for improving IRS service and customer satisfaction. Taxpayers interested in serving on the panel may apply between now and April 27.

The IRS reminds taxpayers to watch out for scams and schemes that put them and their personal information at risk. Each year, the IRS releases the top 12 scams, known as the Dirty Dozen.

Taxpayers who have questions about the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act have several resources that will help answer questions. The legislation, passed in December 2017, changes many areas of the tax law.

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service today said that most tax refunds are issued in less than 21 days, although some may take longer. As of March 16, the IRS had already issued more than 61 million refunds averaging $2,960.
